  • “The Wren” opens August 28

    The Wren

This new play written by Ghost Boat Theater co-founder Kat Eggleston and directed by Samantha Sherman, features live Irish music at every performance. Four shows only, August 28-30 in the Bruce Black Box Theater at Open Space for Arts & Culture.

The story and music of The Wren is steeped in the ancient traditions of Ireland, where for hundreds of years, the “hunting the wren” happened on December 26. Groups of boys would walk out with sticks to hunt and kill a wren, the king of birds. These “wren boys” took the little bird from house to house in their villages, gathering money and ribbons for the funeral of the “king.” In this strange, festive occasion, two sides of human nature collide: brutality, and the sense of wonder.

The production will be staged to provide an immersive experience for audience members, including an opportunity to reserve tables right in the center of the action.
